WAYS TO IMPROVE THE ENGINEERING EDUCATION SYSTEM

Abstract

The article considers the ways to improve engineering education, outlined by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 6, 2025 at a meeting of the Council on Science and Education. The main attention is paid to the structure of personnel training in the higher education system, which is presented by the Ministry of Science and Education as a new model of higher education. It is noted that the reform of higher technical education after joining the Bologna process was not necessary in our country. There was no experience of mass training of bachelors and assessing their readiness for production activities in our country. Apparently, it was a mistake to introduce a bachelor’s degree not in specialties, but in areas (directions). Graduates of bachelor’s degree programs in technical fields need to deepen their practical training. But domestic employers, unlike foreign entrepreneurs, are not ready for this. It is proposed to divide basic higher education into two levels: bachelor’s degree (4 years of study) and specialist degreе. Using the activity based learning model in the educational process, and the lecture-seminar system should be abandoned. The use of an activity-based approach in student education is based on the introduction of educational technologies in which the student is an active participant rather than a passive listener.
